It took us an hour and a half to get to Sorrento from Naples by train. We went during the off-peak season, so the express 30-minutes train wasn’t available. The train was fairly crowded but half of the train got off in Pompei which is about the halfway point between Naples and Sorrento. We’re only staying in Sorrento for 2 days so we didn’t get a chance to see Pompei.
Our Airbnb was a quick 5-minute walk from the train station. We stayed in a beautiful room with a balcony facing the central square, Piazza Tasso.
After we settled in, we went to get lunch at Ristorante Bagni Delfino, a beautiful restaurant overlooking the water. When we arrived around 12:30 PM, we thought they were closed because there were no other customers. Luckily they were opened and since we were their only customers, we had our choice of tables. We of course picked the table outside with a view of Mount Vesuvius. Along with the amazing service, we enjoyed their fresh clam and mussels pasta and seafood risotto.

What Have I Learned: The majority of Italian adults and school children go home for lunch if time permits. Italian also usually eat dinner around 8 PM to 10 PM.

After lunch, we took a ferry to Capri and spent a couple of hours exploring the island. We decided to get dinner back in Sorrento so we caught the ferry back just in time to catch the sunset. Since it was still early for dinner, we brought a bottle of wine and enjoyed it with a beautiful view of Sorrento from our balcony. La Cantinaccia del Popolo is a quick 9-minute walk from our Airbnb. We ordered the lasagna, clam & mussels, and scaloppine alla sorrentina (veal). Dinner was so good and cheap!

The next day, we took a bus to Amalfi town and Positano. We spent the whole day out but we ended up going back to La Cantinaccia del Popolo again for dinner. I ordered the lasagna again but my husband ordered the mussels pasta with the grilled swordfish. We loved the lasagna and mussels pasta but the swordfish was a bit dried. I would definitely come back to this restaurant again if we were here for another night. If you need to have at least one gelato everyday like us then check out Gelateria Raki.
We had to catch the 12 PM train from Sorrento back to Naples. Before leaving beautiful Sorrento, we grabbed a table at Fauno Bar. When we sat down, they said they only had breakfast but we really wanted pizza and lasagna. The server came back and said lunch would start at 10 AM so we waited probably 30 minutes. We people watch and just took in the view.

What Have I Learned: Sorrento is a great town to stay in. You can easily grab the train to Naples, catch a ferry to Capri, and take a bus to Amalfi town/Positano.

I’ve not been to Sorrento, but I’ve been nearby on the Amalfi Coast. It really is a gorgeous part of Italy, with the clear-blue Mediterranean stretching for miles out. I likewise had a hard time staving off hunger until 8pm for dinner while I was there, but the copious amounts of food made up for it in the end! I’m usually not one for risotto, but paired with seafood, it becomes a real delight. Glad you enjoyed your time there!

Yes I seen a lot of pictures of Amalfi coast and it is even more beautiful in person. I loved their pasta, risotto, and pizza!
